About Chris Honey

Director of Competent Fire Safety Professionals (CFSP)

Chris Honey is a skilled and experienced fire safety professional, having spent the past 15 years managing high profile fire installations and service contracts across the Northern Rivers of NSW.

In 2019, he established Competent Fire Safety Professionals in response to the new legal requirements for NSW building owners to employ a Competent Fire Safety Practitioner as part of their annual fire safety compliance. In July 2020, the name of this role was changed to Accredited Practitioner (Fire Safety).

With his unique blend of industry experience and formal qualifications, it was clear that Chris Honey would make the perfect Accredited Practitioner (Fire Safety) to support building owners to traverse through the unfamiliar road ahead. It was here that Competent Fire Safety Professionals was born.

Chris’ career path to becoming an Accredited Practitioner (Fire Safety) began back in 1994 with the completion of an Honours Degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Graduate Diploma in Business Enterprise from the University of Adelaide.

As a graduate, he moved to Melbourne to take up a Sales Engineer position with NAP Silentflo, a leading Australian owned noise control company. At the end of 1995, Chris transferred to Sydney as the NSW State Manager.

By the end of 2004, Chris had relocated to the Northern Rivers, where in 2005 he commenced in the role of Contracts Manager with Chubb Fire Safety, managing fire system installation projects, and in 2006 became Chubb Fire Safety’s Northern Rivers Service Manager. In 2011, to improve his knowledge and the service he could provide to his clients, Chris completed a Masters of Fire Safety Engineering from the University of Western Sydney.

In 2012, Chris joined Hawkins On Fire – Fire Protection Services in the role of General Manager. At Hawkins On Fire, Chris continued his learning and development, completing training as a Fire Safety Officer in line with NSW Health Guideline “Fire Safety in Health Care Facilities”, PD2010_024 and a Fire Safety Adviser (FSA) in accordance with QLD Building Fire Safety Regulation 2008.

During his time at both Chubb Fire Safety and Hawkins On Fire, Chris managed both service (inspection and testing) and construction operations across a wide variety of fire safety measures and in a multitude of commercial and industrial environments.

In July 2019, Chris established Competent Fire Safety Professionals to provide a quality Competent Fire Safety Practitioner service based on his robust understanding of Standards, Building Codes and Essential Fire Safety Measures. With a strong foundation of industry knowledge, formal qualification and practical experience, Chris is passionate about supporting clients with his caring and thorough approach to building fire safety compliance.
